Streamlined Bitstamp accounting with Bitwave

One of the longest-running crypto exchanges for fiat-to-crypto.

Why connect Bitstamp to Bitwave ?

One activity feed, classified in Bitwave

Bitwave reads the Bitstamp transaction history, which combines trades, deposits, withdrawals, and fees, and classifies each entry by type using Bitstamp's trading pair information.

Read permissions and nothing more

The connection needs permission to read balances and transactions and nothing more, so your Bitstamp credential never carries trading or withdrawal rights and Bitwave cannot act on your funds.

Balances available for validation

Bitwave pulls Bitstamp account balances each time it updates, so your team can compare exchange balances with the balances Bitwave derives from imported transactions when validating a period.

How it works

Bitwave connects to Bitstamp with an access credential you create under API access in your Bitstamp settings, limited to reading balances and transactions.

Once the credential is added, Bitwave brings the account's transaction history and balances into the subledger, where trades, deposits, withdrawals, and fees are categorized and reconciled.

The workflow:

  1. Create a Bitstamp access credential with balance and transaction permissions and add it in Bitwave.
  2. Bitwave brings in trades, deposits, withdrawals, fees, and balances.
  3. Categorize the imported records, with rules handling repeat counterparties.
  4. Reconcile the period and push the results to your general ledger connection or journal entry reports.

Key Benefits

What makes the Bitwave integration with Bitstamp special ?

Bitstamp is often used as a fiat on- and off-ramp, so the accounting interest is in matching fiat deposits and withdrawals to trades and tracking fees. Bitwave reads the account's activity feed and classifies it so those movements arrive in the subledger with their type and fee attached.

For the finance team, Bitstamp trades receive cost basis and gain and loss treatment, fiat and crypto transfers are categorized as funding movements, and balances are captured for validation, keeping Bitstamp activity reconciled as part of the regular close.
