Streamlined Coinbase accounting with Bitwave

Centralized exchange offering crypto trading and liquidity services.

Why connect Coinbase to Bitwave ?

Trades rebuilt from the account ledger

Bitwave reads the Coinbase Exchange account ledger and groups matched fills, fees, rebates, and conversions into trades, so each trade arrives in Bitwave with both sides and its fee attached.

Deposits and withdrawals per currency account

Transfers into and out of each Coinbase Exchange currency account are imported, so funding movements between the exchange and your wallets or bank can be identified and categorized as transfers.

Exchange balances for reconciliation

Bitwave pulls balances from Coinbase Exchange, letting your team compare exchange balances with the balances derived from imported transactions when validating a period.

How it works

Bitwave connects to Coinbase Exchange with a view-only access credential you create in Coinbase Exchange. Bitwave does not need trading or transfer rights and cannot access your funds. Coinbase Exchange is a separate connection from Coinbase Retail and Coinbase Prime.

After the credential is added, Bitwave brings the account ledger and transfers into the subledger for categorization and reconciliation.

The workflow:

  1. Create a view-only access credential in Coinbase Exchange and add it in Bitwave.
  2. Bitwave brings in the account ledger, rebuilding trades, fees, and conversions, along with deposits and withdrawals.
  3. Categorize the imported activity in Bitwave, one by one or with rules.
  4. Review balances against the exchange, then reconcile into your general ledger.

Key Benefits

What makes the Bitwave integration with Coinbase special ?

Coinbase Exchange records activity as a ledger of fills, fees, and transfers per currency account, which is not the shape an accounting system needs. Bitwave reassembles that ledger into trades with fees and into funding transfers, so the subledger reflects what happened economically.

For the finance team, the outcome is exchange trades with cost basis and gain and loss, conversions and fee rebates handled explicitly, and transfers between the exchange and your other wallets recognized as transfers, with balances available to reconcile the exchange account at period end.
